Recall of Brut & Sure Aerosol Sprays

The Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs has advised that TCP HOT Acquisition LLC dba HRB Brands issued a product recall on February 16, 2022, for Brut and Sure Aerosol Sprays, due to the presence of benzene.

The company’s website reported that the voluntary recall is for all lot numbers with expiration dates on or before August 2023.

It explained that “while benzene is not an ingredient in any of the recalled products”, the review showed that “unexpected levels of benzene came from the propellant that sprays the product out of the can. These products were owned and distributed by Helen of Troy Limited prior to June 7, 2021”.

Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled products, and if they experience any problems that may be related to using them, they should contact their physician or health care provider.

The company stated that to date, there were no reports of adverse events related to this voluntary recall, which was being conducted out of an abundance of caution.

Affected products, which are packaged in aerosol cans, should be returned to the retailer from which they were purchased. It is recommended that the consumer be refunded by that retailer.

For further information, consumers in Barbados may call the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs at 535-7000, or email commerce.ca@barbados.gov.bb.
