Team members of leading insurance and financial solutions provider, Sagicor, recently showcased their generosity and willingness to give back to the less fortunate in their community, by donating several goods to assist the 10 families currently served by the Optimist Club of Barbados Central’s Adopt-A-Family programme.

During the month of April, the company set up barrels at its two locations in Collymore Rock and Wildey, inviting team members to donate non-perishable food, toiletries, and a variety of baby products to aid in improving the current circumstances of the 10 families identified as the beneficiaries of this year’s programme.

Paul Inniss, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Sagicor Life Inc, said the donation will be the first of many, as the company intends to repeat the activity at varying points throughout the remainder of the year, adding to the support that has already been given to the Optimist Club earlier this year.

In March, Sagicor donated BDS$24,000 to the programme for the purpose of providing financial and other aid to the beneficiaries, particularly the children that are part of these families.

“When we were first introduced to the programme, we were made aware of the many challenges that quite a number of families face across the island, but especially those families with young children, whose needs are quite complex and at times difficult for parents to manage.

We  saw a lot of need with regards to nutrition and hygiene, particularly with toddlers, therefore, in consultation with the Optimist Club of Barbados Central, we came up with a list of preferred items that team members were encouraged to donate.

The fact that we are able to make this donation at this time is a testament to the generosity of our team, which I’m certain will be on display again throughout this year and beyond,” Inniss said.  In accepting the donation, Merleen Hercules, Secretary of the Optimist Club of Barbados Central, thanked Sagicor and its team for their ongoing support of the programme and its beneficiaries.

“When we first approached Sagicor about sponsoring this initiative there was no hesitation on their part. In fact, it was during those discussions that we suggested setting up a donation drive to give Sagicor team members the opportunity to contribute, to which they readily agreed. We couldn’t be more appreciative of their selflessness.”  (PR)
