Local News News CPA Canada event focuses on ethical decision making Barbados Today10/06/2022065 views The COVID-19 pandemic brought into sharp focus the issues of risk management and crisis preparedness. But where does business ethics fit into the conversation? Answering that question for an audience of international members was the focus of two free webinars hosted by Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada) on June 7 and 8. The webinars – titled “Making ethical decisions in a crisis”- were hosted by Arun Mathur, FCPA, FCA and a partner with Gerald Duthie & Co. LLP in Windsor, Ontario. Arun is also the owner and lead instructor at UltimQuest Knowledge Inc. and delivers corporate training on improving ethics, governance, internal control, performance measurement, and related topics. “Using real examples and cases, I explain how organizations have handled pres-sure, made difficult decisions, dealt with their stakeholders, and lived up to their core values during the crisis,” noted Mathur, who is a firm believer in the return on investment from ethical business practices. “ When corporations have a strong ethical compass guiding their operations and decision-making, they reap many benefits that result in sustainable, long-term success.” During the sessions, he also demonstrated how to apply ethical values with confidence and explained why having a strong ethical foundation is critical to an organization’s long-term success. “There are many factors that go into successfully managing a crisis,” said Nikita Bayne, Chair of the CPA Canada Barbados Chapter Advisory Council. “A core part of what CPAs bring to the table is the ability to keep a focus on ethical behaviour at all times.” In total, more than 640 CPAs from over 40 countries took part in this session.
