Art Exhibition opens simultaneously in Barbados and Canada

Art enthusiasts came together on Thursday for the official launch of “In Two Places,” an exhibition of prints by 16 Barbadian and Canadian artists at The Brighton Storeroom in St. George, co-hosted by the High Commission of Canada in Barbados.

The exhibition is happening simultaneously at the Satellite Project Space in London, Ontario, and The Brighton Storeroom in St. George, Barbados.

The joint exhibition, organised by The Brighton Storeroom and Print London, features 50 prints exploring themes of “place, identity and belonging,” which are also available for purchase.

Seven Barbadian artists are featured in the exhibition, including Dennis de Caires, Joscelyn Gardener, Versia Harris, Mark King, Bethany Pile, Estelle Thompson, and Kraig Yearwood.

The opening reception, hosted by the High Commission of Canada in Barbados with support from Sir Trevor Carmichael and James Gardiner, brought together members of the Canadian diaspora and Barbadian community, including Senator, Dr. Shantal Munro-Knight, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office with responsibility for Culture, for an evening celebrating Canada and Barbados’ longstanding friendship. Canada’s Head of Cooperation for the Eastern Caribbean, Jennifer Heys, featured artist, Dennis de Caires, and long-standing patron of the arts in Barbados,
Sir Trevor Carmichael, offered remarks underscoring the important cultural connections and warm bilateral relations between Canada and Barbados.

A similar launch was hosted yesterday in London, Ontario, with support from MUSEUM London, the Satellite Project Space, Fanshawe College School of Design, The City of London and the London Arts Council, and the High Commission of Barbados in Canada.

“In Two Places” will continue through July 2nd at the Satellite Project Space in Canada and August 27th at The Brighton Storeroom, in the centre of the Brighton Farmers’ Market, in Barbados. (PR)
