Knife in waist lands man in court

A pre-sentencing report has been ordered on a 26-year-old car washer who admitted to being in public with an offensive weapon.

Tramaine Michael Stuart, of Bannister Land, Martinadale’s Road, St Michael pleaded guilty to having the knife in his community on June 10 without reasonable or lawful excuse.

Police responded to a report of rock throwing on Martindale’s Road and saw Stuart when they arrived at the location.

On seeing police he started to move away from the area but was stopped. He was questioned in connection with the report and admitted to being involved.

A search was requested but before that could take place Stuart removed a knife from the side of his waist and lawmen took possession of it.

“I got it for my protection,” the first-time offender said when asked to give an account of why he had the weapon.

However, standing before Magistrate Kim Butcher, he said, “I have nothing to say ma’am,” when questioned in connection with the crime.

Stuart is expected to reappear before the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Traffic Court on August 19 when the report on his life is expected in preparation for sentencing.
