Witnesses to latest homicide describe incident as frightening

Police on the scene.

Witnesses to the country’s latest gun-related homicide have described the incident as frightening and chaotic.

The shooting, in the area of the Blackwoods Screw Dock in Cavans Lane, The City, has left one man dead and three others injured.

Police say the shooting happened around 1 a.m. on Saturday.

A police spokesperson told Barbados TODAY  that Rashad Mathurin, 26, of Westbury Road, St Michael, was shot and killed.

One man, who did not want to be identified, said he was in the area when the shooting occurred. He said the scene was the usual party vibe until gunfire erupted.

“There was a boat that now docked … and shots started to fire from there,” he said.

Another witness said that once the shooting started, a group of people started running and exchanging gunfire with each other as patrons on the boats in the area started to run for cover.

Police arrived shortly after the shooting and ordered that the music be turned off and people clear the scene.

“They told us to shut off the music [because] they wanted everyone from out there evacuated, so we have to shut off everything.”

Police said Larry Omar Clarke, 42, of Greenfield St Michael; Eva Goodridge, 27, of Appleby St James and 31-year-old Akeem Andrew Arthur, of Ferniehurst Black Rock, St Michael were injured and taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment. (SB)
