Junior Monarch contestants draw for positions

Contestants in the 2022 Scotiabank Junior Monarch Competition are making final preparations to compete in the event which has returned after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

With just five days to go before their big day on Saturday, the mostly confident – though somewhat nervous – contestants drew for their positions in the two categories of social commentary and soca.

In the Calypso category, Yahandje Daniel will be first on stage, followed by Kari-Anne Holford-Sam, Ethan Edey, Alyssa Harris, Rimiya Wilson, Kenaz Walker, Danesha Davis, Kadarius Allen, and Dondria Forde.

Joshua Blackman will lead off the Soca segment, and will be followed by Trinity Clarke, Joshua Oxley, Malika Goodridge, Kiah Shurland, Sephon Sealy, Revenn Moseley, and Shontee Alleyne-Clarke.

Corporate Communications Specialist at the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) Toni Yarde said the young calypsonians were excited to hit the stage on Saturday, with final preparations being done this week, including a mock tent.

“We really have to give thanks to the parents of these young ones and the young ones themselves because they are very enthusiastic,” she said at the drawing at the Broad Street branch of Scotiabank, as she also gave kudos to NCF Music Officer Kevin Moore who is assisted by Dr Stefan Walcott in preparing the contestants.
