PM Press Conference: Mottley announces measures to ease high cost of living

Prime Minister Mia Mottley has  announced a raft of measures to help Barbadians cope with the high cost of living.

These include:

  • The Schools Meals Department will provide lunches to all school age children from July 25 to September 2, 2022.
  • The Value Added Tax will be reduced from 17.5 to 7.5 per cent for the electricity charge on the first 250 kw/h off residential bill.
  • The basket of essential food items will be expanded. These items will not attract the Value Added Tax.
  • Consumers will benefit from price reductions on 45 essential items from July 21 to January 31, 2023
