Local News News 17 ready for junior competition Barbados Today15/07/20220160 views All systems are going for the 2022 Scotiabank Junior Monarch Competition scheduled to be held on Saturday, July 16 at the Wildey Gymnasium. Seventeen contestants are expected to compete in the final stage where two crowns, calypso and soca will be up for grabs. National Cultural Foundation (NCF) Music Officer and producer of junior monarch 2022 Kevin Moore told members of the media during a site visit on Thursday that preparations for Saturday have been progressing well. “We are having technical rehearsals and sound check tonight. Tomorrow is dress rehearsal and the show is on Saturday at 7 p.m. The artistes are well rehearsed. “We are now into the technical aspect of the show, making sure the presentation of the performances is well put together and we are preparing the musical aspect of the show. “All of the artistes would have went through the mentorship sessions and the workshops sessions, so everything is pretty much on stream for Saturday,” Moore said. The competition was not held in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Moore explained that because COVID-19 protocols must still be followed, auditions for the 2022 Junior Monarch competitions were held virtually, which is not the norm. He also reported that there was also a noticeable decline in the number of persons that would generally register for Junior Monarch. “Plus over the last two years a lot of the regulars for junior monarch would have aged out,” Moore said, noting that the competition has now entered a rebuilding stage. Despite the challenges that came with producing the competition this year, Moore commended the contestants for the spirit of camaraderie they have exhibited as it relates to cheering each other. (AH)
