BARVEN launches its own version of Bridgetown Market

The Barbados Association of Retailers, Vendors and Entrepreneurs (BARVEN) successfully launched its own version of the popular Bridgetown Market event on Saturday.

President of BARVEN, Alister Alexander told Barbados TODAY that scores of patrons made their way down to the Mighty Grynner Highway to experience the entertainment, food, and produce on offer.

“It was very encouraging … the setup of Bridgetown Market actually being in a market was fantastic. It is a great beginning and I hope that we can continue in the future. I would have liked the whole of Barbados to be here obviously but it has been great,” he said.

He added that he hoped that the organisation could play an expanded role in the future in the usual Bridgetown Market, to add a greater emphasis to the vending culture on the island.

“We would like to get into a discussion with NCF concerning the event. The Government has celebrated vendors through the establishment of the Bridgetown Market, which is great. I think that as we have now ourselves been building our capacity to handle our own affairs, I believe that there should be a synergy made with the NCF and the vendors.” (SB)
