Wins for Bulls, Cavaliers, Mayhill and Challengers

Burger King Clapham Bulls A continued their dominance with a 70-57 victory over Premier League rivals Barbados Lumber Company Lakers in the ongoing Co-operators General Insurance Barbados Amateur Basketball Association Club Challenge.

Host Clapham stamped their authority at their home base in Wildey, St. Michael last night led by a game-high 14 points from Andrew Ifill as Clapham Bulls led 20-17, 39-29 and 57-39 in the first three quarters.

Noticeably without head coach Ryan Leacock for the night, Bulls played their usual strong game on offence and defence. Romaine Lovell accounted for the next best individual total of 13 points and Tehron King added ten points inclusive of an up and under layup to start the match entertainingly.

The Lakers with a more youthful squad tried to keep up with the intensity of the Bulls who pressed the offence and also covered their bases on defence.

Two of Lakers’ upcoming talents Tyreke Harewood and Brandon Ruck tallied 13 points each but the Bulls with a cadre of experienced players in their arsenal were the better team on the night.

In the opening match, Station Hill Cavaliers got the better of City United Celtics 79-59 in a keenly contested exchange.

While Celtics got off to a better start with a 25-19 lead in the first quarter, the Cavaliers coached by Adrian Craigwell ensured they grabbed a slim lead at 42-40 at halftime and went on to dominate 65-49 in the third stanza en route to victory.

Four players reached double digits for the Cavaliers with three of them scoring 14 points each – Zachary Cave, Adriel Brathwaite, Gavin Phillips – while Chikosi Boardi registered 13 points.

Celtics on the other hand were led in the scoring department by Antone Lawrence

with 14 and Nickolas King ten.

Over at Culloden Road, two matches were played and in the first encounter, Pharmaceuticals Plus Mayhill won 84-66 (25-14, 43-23, 66-49) against Senators.

Corey Watson and Greig Springer both registered 24 points, Dijon Hunte netted 14 and Daniel Lovell 12 for the victorious Mayhill. For Senators Rasheed Harte scored 23 and Kyhia Dyall with 19 played extremely well despite it being a losing effort.

In the final match of the night, Smart Med Pharmacy Challengers defeated Bears Vets 69-57 (6-13, 26-31, 47-40) in an entertaining clash.

Todd Bourne with his contribution of 18 points, Mark Leacock 15 and Neil Patrick 13, spearheaded the Challengers’ offence. While Jamar King with a total of 13 points along with Shakeil Rock and Akeem Williams 11 were the standouts for Bear Vets. morissalindsay@barbadostoday.bb
