Fifty residents from the Nightingale Children’s Village and the Marina Brewster Centre at Farrs were in for a special treat last weekend when they were invited to Kensington Oval to watch the CG United One-Day International matches between West Indies and
New Zealand.

This initiative was co-ordinated by the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) in partnership with the Bridgetown Port Taxi Co-op Society Ltd., under the patronage of Minister of Elder Affairs and People Empowerment, Kirk Humphrey.

The children watched the matches that were played on Friday, August 19 and Sunday, August 21.

They were also treated to lunch and got the opportunity to meet Minister of Labour Colin Jordan and Member of Parliament for St Lucy Peter Phillips.

President of the taxi association Adrian Bayley said it was heartfelt to see the joy on the children’s faces
and he was glad to be part of an activity that aimed
to lift the spirits of children who otherwise would not have gotten the opportunity to see the West Indies cricket team live in action.

He thanked Humphrey and manager of marketing and communications at the BCA Steven Leslie for coming onboard the initiative and ensuring the children had a memorable experience.

Bayley added that this was not the first community-based engagement his association was involved in. He said that the taxi group was previously involved in activities such as beach cleanups and a school beautification programme. (SZB)
