More than 50 male students get free haircuts, meals

It was an exciting time for more than 50 young male students as they received free haircuts and full meals on Saturday in preparation for the new school term, thanks to the efforts of Supreme Counselling for Personal Development.

The initiative, called the Supreme Heads Up Project, initially sought to only cater to 50 young males during the morning and afternoon period at the Supreme Counselling offices. But according to Director of the organisation, Shawn Clarke, that number was easily surpassed by 1 p.m.

Clarke told Barbados TODAY that in speaking to the young students, most of them were excited about the resumption of full face-to-face classes, but a level of anxiety had started to set in.

“From the young men that we have spoken to this morning they are ready for school; they have missed the whole school interaction, they have missed being in class every day with all of their classmates and so on,” Clarke said.

“We picked up [however] that there is a level of apprehension from some of the young men, we think it’s because of a level of anxiety, not knowing what to expect. It’s kind of like yes we are going back to school, we know that there is still COVID around, we do not know what to expect, but we are excited to be back out to school.” (SB)
