A flash flood warning is in effect for central districts of Barbados

The flash flood watch has been upgraded to a flash flood warning for central districts, while a flash flood watch remains in effect for the remainder of the island. The Barbados Meteorological Services said this alert is valid from 10:15 a.m. and will be update at noon or sooner if conditions warrant. A flash flood warning is issued when rapid flooding due to heavy or excessive rainfall in a short period of time (generally less than 6 hours) is occurring or is imminent in the warning area. The Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) continues to affect the island. Parts of the island recorded between 1 to 2 inches of rainfall this morning and an additional 1 to 3 inches is possible today.

-Strong runoff from higher elevations.
-Soil erosion is likely on bared or scarred land surfaces.
-Debris such as small rocks, mud and tree foliage could end up on roads and property.
-Traffic delays are likely.
-Flooding at the foot of hillsides and coastal roads is possible.
