DisruptHR coming to Barbados

The global HR industry is being disrupted and if Barbadian businesses want to compete effectively in an increasingly globalized world, they need to be fully prepared!

That’s the clear message being sent by Julie Turney, organizer of the DisruptHR Caribbean conference which is being held in Barbados on Tuesday, October 25 at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.

DisruptHR Caribbean is part of a larger DisruptHR movement which has chapters across the globe, including chapters in the USA, South America, Europe, Australia and Africa. The upcoming conference in Barbados will feature 13 highly respected speakers, who will be covering topics related to people development, work-life balance, the connection between HR and PR, recruitment and the gig economy.

According to Turney, HR is a rapidly evolving discipline, and the aim of the conference is to provide Barbadian business leaders with critical, interesting and important information that they can use to help them build stronger businesses within the highly competitive business environments in which they operate – particularly considering the challenging economy ushered in by the COVID-19 pandemic.

While HR conferences have been a staple of the Barbadian landscape for quite some time, the format of DisruptHR is markedly different from most conferences that have been held in Barbados over the years. Each DisruptHR presenter gets 5 minutes (and only five minutes) to speak on an HR-related topic of their choice. This format virtually guarantees that DisruptHR presenters get straight to the heart of the topic on which they are presenting. It also guarantees that each DisruptHR presentation is packed with only the most vital information on the topic being discussed. If there ever was a crash course on HR, DisruptHR is it!

The upcoming conference on the 25th of this month features highly experienced, thought-leaders, influencers, executives, entrepreneurs and academics including Dr. Rochelle Haynes, Corey McClean, Cherita O’dell, Joan Underwood, Cleora Farquharson and Tiffany Broomes.

Commenting on the upcoming conference, Turney noted that while all of the speakers will be presenting topic linked to HR, the conference isn’t only for HR professionals. “HR is critical to the health of any business”, she notes, “and any business leader – whether they are a CEO, marketing professional, HR specialist, entrepreneur or business owner – will benefit from the immense value that will be shared by the speakers. Turney is one of Barbados’ most well-known HR executives who specializes in providing HR support services specifically for HR professionals. Turney is also a highly sought-after speaker and coach and recently completed her first TEDx talk in April 2022 in Austria.

Persons interested in attending the conference can purchase tickets through Eventbrite. Tickets will also be sold at the door
