A special rum occasion

Mount Gay's Master blender Trudiann Branker was among those at the dinner and who gave insights into her area of expertise.

Rum aficionados from around the world had the opportunity to learn more about the world-renowned rums of Barbados as they took part in this year’s Mount Gay Meet the Maker Dinner.

The dinner, which was held at the Fairmont Royal Pavilion last Thursday, formed part of the Barbados Rum Experience week of activities, which is in its second year.

The Barbados Rum Experience also consisted of a lecture and discussion forum, bar tours and visits to some of the island’s rum distilleries, and was designed to share the history, experiences and stories behind Barbados rum.

The specially invited guests were treated to a three-course dining experience as they learned about several rum-based beverages with which to pair various meals.

The rum lovers also had the opportunity to have some of their burning questions about rum answered.

The guests were welcomed by the new Managing Director of Mount Gay Rum Distilleries Ltd. Antoine Couvreur, who said Barbados rum is a “jewel”.

He said Mount Gay would be doing all it could to get it in the hands of more people around the world as it seeks to increase exports.
