Concacaf C license coaching for women

The Barbados Football Association continues to focus on the improvement of women’s football and coaching education with participants, including former and current national players, starting the journey on Wednesday towards acquiring the Concacaf Women’s C License certificate.

Over the course of the next five days at the BFA’s headquarters Wildey, St Michael, the aspiring female coaches will complete theorical and practical activities led by head of coaching education Kent Hall and coach educator Fitzgerald Carter.

Concacaf Technical Expert Lenny Lake will also be assisting with educating the coaches.

The Concacaf license will give coaches the required knowledge and skills to conduct coaching sessions for local players. So far, Barbados is one of six nations in the Concacaf region to host the Concacaf C level License for Women which is geared at providing 300 women with the opportunity to coach football.

BFA President Randy Harris said the Concacaf C License is another step at enhancing the standard of women’s football on the island.

“The executive committee of the BFA was hearten at the tremendous quality and standard of the recently concluded Women’s Super League and the participation of players and clubs. We are trying to move female football forward, there are a lot of opportunities, not only for players but administrators and we hope that you will take this course in good spirit and let us improve the game.

“In order to take the sport to new heights, we have to work together as a team. We need the cooperation of all you to be successful in this development. I want to thank you ladies for participating and remember this might be the beginning of a career in football for some of you and remember the BFA is here to assist where it is possible. I look forward to a successful course and bright future.”

Technical Director Emmerson Boyce mentioned “We are excited for you to participate in the Women’s Concacaf C License course. It is an honour and pleasure to see you begin this new journey. We want to raise the standards of women’s football on the island and it continues with you today.”

Concacaf Caribbean Development Manager Andre Waugh also stated: “For us at Concacaf, we put together this programme earlier this year and the goal was to go across the region and provide opportunities for 300 of our women all across the region.

“The aim is to provide access to the game for all gender, all race and all religion without discrimination, and when we designed this programme, we thought about how we could get more women involved in the programme especially in coaching.” (PR)
