Charity plans upcoming treat for underprivileged children

After a two-year break due to COVID-19 restrictions, hundreds of underprivileged children will again be able to celebrate Christmas in grand style this year.

Thanks to the Fishers of Men Charity, an estimated 500 youngsters, mostly from children’s homes and special needs schools, will benefit from one big Christmas party filled with gifts, food supplies, and other basic necessities on December 27 at The Gates, Belle, St Michael.

“That is a party that I do every year for the underprivileged children, but you know I haven’t done it for two years because of the coronavirus… to give back and to make the children feel happy,” founder of the charity, Sharon Bellamy-Thompson, said in an interview with Barbados TODAY.

“I am also trying to get some entertainers to come and perform and I will also be wrapping some day passes from various hotels for the children. This party will be for underprivileged children from children’s homes, the special needs schools, and other underprivileged children who don’t get to go anywhere,” Bellamy-Thompson declared.

The charity worker said she will also be looking to get at least three Transport Board buses to ferry parents, children, and others to the event which runs from noon to 4 p.m. The buses are scheduled to leave every hour from outside the Golden Square Freedom Park in the city. (EJ)
