QEH Internet fix soon

Full internet access will be restored to priority departments of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) by mid week.

The hospital’s Executive Chairman Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland reported on Monday in a press release that the Ministry of Innovation Science and Technology ((MIST) has indicated that the hospital should have access restored by Wednesday.

“This will alleviate the pressure placed on our Medical Services, and Accident & Emergency Department. We are equally pleased to report that salaries promised by December 22, 2022, have started to be paid.

“Thanks to the support of MIST, our IT department and private experts, we have made progress despite the circumstances. We thank the public for its continued patience and understanding. Further updates will be provided,” the release outlined.

Last week, the island’s main tertiary care institution launched an investigation into a cyber security incident which affected its internet network. The incident led to a number of departments being affected which led to disruptions and delays to some  services.

However, Bynoe-Sutherland gave the assurance that even with investigations ongoing, measures have been taken to make sure patient confidentiality remains a priority. (AH)
