#SpeakingOut – Nothing can stop my holiday

As a long time and long stay visitor about to land in Barbados for six weeks shortly, I always try to look at crime through the eyes of what I risk staying home.

I can recall two to three rapes of tourists late at night, mainly in the Gap over the years. There was a daylight sexual assault in Holetown as well, but I never worry as Barbados is much safer than the streets of many large Canadian cities.

Of course, anywhere you travel in the world you have to use your head and understand the landscape and take steps to insure your safety. It is just common sense, be it Japan, the UK and yes, right here, in Sidney BC, population 14,000.

Nothing in the news is going to stop me from getting off that plane on February 21 and enjoying six weeks in a place I call home for a chunk of every year.
