Children of the families supported by the Optimist Club of Barbados Central’s Adopt-A-Family programme ended 2022 with some much-needed Christmas cheer, thanks to donations from team members of leading insurance and financial solutions provider, Sagicor.

During November and December of last year, the company set up barrels at its two locations in Collymore Rock and Wildey, inviting team members to donate non-perishable food, toys, and games, suitable for kids aged one to 15 years. This followed a previous donation made by the company’s team members earlier in the year, of non-perishable food, toiletries, and baby products to help improve the circumstances of the 10 families who benefitted from last year’s programme.

Whilst making the first presentation of donated items, Paul Inniss, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Sagicor Life Inc., signalled the company’s intention to repeat the activity at varying points of the year, noting that the holiday season gave them a perfect opportunity to do so.

“In March last year, we donated $24,000 to the Club’s Adopt-A-Family programme for the purpose of providing financial and other aid to families in need. Whilst working with the Optimist team, we were exposed to and made aware of the hardships faced by many families across the island,” said Inniss.

“While our first donation focused on nutritional needs and hygiene, this second one focused on bringing joy into their lives. Of course, this would not have been possible without the generosity of our team members, and I’m certain that these items will be very well received by the families.”

In accepting the donation, Merleen Hercules, Secretary of the Optimist Club of Barbados Central, thanked Sagicor and its team for their ongoing support of the programme and its beneficiaries. “Following the commencement of this partnership in May of last year, Sagicor and its generous team members continue to blow us away with their multiple efforts and approaches to [help us reach] those in our communities who need it most. Through their support, we were able to put smiles on the faces of several kids and their families during the holidays, and we couldn’t be more appreciative of their selflessness.” (PR)
