#SpeakingOut – Are we all in it together?

It seems as though the nation’s policy and decision makers are not serious about having a wider distribution of wealth among citizens at the lower rounds of the social and economic ladder. It also seems as though they are not ad idem on the idea that “we are all in it together”.

The mantra rolling off the tongues of politicians says one thing, and a decision made at another level appears discriminatory against potential small investors in the renewable energy sector.

There has been a stated desire for every homeowner to install solar PV panels on their roofs, while recent regulations have set lower rates than currently exist for these same small investors.

No wonder local expert Mr. Ralph Bizzy Williams has been quoted in a section of the Press saying, “It seemed a little strange that the rates for the smaller systems would be decreased, given that the current government administration has been promoting the need for all homeowners to have the solar PV systems installed.”

It is now becoming easier to believe the now aged whisper, “We live in two (places called) Barbados.”

Notwithstanding, there are still many who believe in the words of our National Anthem, “Firm craftsmen of our fate” and are further buoyed up by the incantation “We are all in it together”.

Moving forward as a republic, may these two ideas be incorporated into a national covenant – so help us God.
