Evelyn sets new national indoor record

Barbadian Olympic sprinter Tristan Evelyn has lowered her own national 60-metre indoor record.

Just days after clocking 7.21 seconds at the ISTAF meet in Germany, Evelyn stormed to a new personal best time of 7.19 seconds in Poland.

She finished second behind hometown girl Ewa Swoboda (7.15) on Saturday at the 2023 Orlen Cup in the Atlas Arena.

“It is very exciting for me, coming off last year, this would be my second year with coach Allen Powell, so we knew the things we needed to work on from last year and he had a very strategic plan. To see the progress we have been making this indoor season has been amazing. I look forward even more to the outdoor season,” Evelyn told Barbados TODAY in a post-race telephone interview.

Evelyn, a former CARIFTA games and CAC games silver medallist and Springer School star athlete, is also the national women’s 100-metre record holder with a time of 11.14 seconds set in May 2021 as she qualified for the rescheduled Tokyo 2020 Olympics. (AGB)
