Foundation Double Crown Volleyball Champions

Christ Church Foundations School (CCFS) are the Kings and Queens of the National Sports Council’s Schools Under-19 Knock Out Volleyball competition winning both titles on Friday at the Wildey Gymnasium.

Both the Boys and Girls teams won in straight sets to capture the title. The boys defeated Queen’s College 25-20, 25-23, while the Girls won over the Alleyne School 26-24, 26-24.

Lefty Serena Edwards had a stellar performance as she guided the Girls to the title.

Edwards who was the captain of her team, was pounding away from the outside in a close see-saw battle against the Alleyne School.

During the first set the lead changed hands countless times as neither time managed to open any cushion over the other. Alleyne looked as though they were playing a better alround game at first but critical mistakes such as miscommunication and letting the ball fall prevented them from opening any significant advantage.

However, Edwards was clearly the go-to player for CCFS on attack as she was relentless whenever the ball was set to her. She led with the attack as well as kept pushing her team, but when she rotated into the back court it took sometime before CCFS could settle and Desanni Waithe tried to pick up where Edwards left off.

In the front court the Alleyne School had Elana Jones and Tameka Husbands combining for some big time blocks, which kept them in the game.

With the scores levelled on 24-24, CCFS won the final two points and fittingly it was Edwards who scored the winning point for her team to close out the set.

In the second set it looked as though the wind had been knocked out of the Alleyne School sails as CCFS took over the lead early in the set and opened one of the biggest advantages of the game 18-13. Edwards was showcasing that she was capable of more than just power hitting as she added depth touches and placement to the mix of her arsenal.

But a late run by the Alleyne School saw them level the scores at 19-19 and a short see-saw battle ensued, which ended with CCFS winning the set 26-24 and the match 2-0.

In the boys CCFS came up against Queen’s College and though there were some bright sparks from QC with Ajani Small, J’léio Felicien and Amaani Holder they were no match for the consistency of CCFS, who saw outstanding performances on the court from Nicholas Durrant, Kaiel Johnson, Jadon Batson,  Nkoya Williams Bailey and Kaden Hoyte.
