Local News News Barbados names 23-member CARIFTA team Barbados Today15/03/20230853 views A 23-member team has been selected by the Athletics Association of Barbados (AAB) to represent the island at the 50th CARIFTA Games in Nassau, Bahamas next month from April 8 to 10. The Barbados team will have its eyes set on equaling or bettering the 2022 performance of 11 medals [ one gold, four silver, six bronze] in Kingston, Jamaica with 16 athletes expected to make their debuts. Two noticeable omissions are Under-20 sprinters Amani Mascoll-Beckles and Kishawna Niles who dipped under the qualifying standards. Mascoll-Beckles hit the CARIFTA mark in three events, clocking 47.77 seconds in the 400-metre, 21.29 in the 200-metre and 10.55 seconds in the 100-metre event. While Niles stormed to 11.78 seconds in the Under-20 girls 100-metres. Six under-17 girls have been chosen: Alika Harewood, Aniya Nurse, Ashlyn Simmons, Ariel Archer, Chanecia Bryan, and Kadia Rock, while Aaron Massiah, Kaden Dowrich-Roach and Luke Mcintyre are the under-17 boys. Asabi Callender, Brieanna Boyce, Layla Haynes, Khristel Martindale, and Nya Browne will compete in the under-20 girls division while the under-20 boys are: Amari Knight, Amir Gustave, Aragorn Straker, Favian Gollop, Fynn Armstrong, Jadon Pearce, Josiah Parris, Nikkolai Kennedy, T’shaun Sealy.
