‘Bigger and better’ Carter’s Canine Expo

Dog enthusiasts gathered on the lawn of Carter’s Warrens industrial Park location on Saturday for the second annual Carters Canine Expo.

Tammy Rose Evelyn, Marketing Coordinator for Carter’s and Company Ltd, told Barbados TODAY, “It  is even bigger and better than we did last year.”

While the inaugural showcase attracted eight exhibitors, this year’s event has attracted 15 businesses. Evelyn said, “We are just trying to bring together a bunch of animal welfare organisations, businesses that can inform the public about how to better take care of their animals.

“We know that Bajans love their dogs, but we know also that during the COVID period we would have had a situation where the public was cash-strapped. In talking with some of the animal welfare organisations we found out that many Barbadians were just letting their dogs go and roam around the streets because they could no longer take care of them.”

She added, “Here at Carter’s we are very passionate about making sure that this does not occur anymore. We think that part of doing that is just informing the public of a better way forward, so that is what this is really all about.”

With the excellent turnout, she believes the public is receptive to the information that the company is providing.

Attendees were able to get free canine check-ups done by the Barbados Veterinary Association and many were attracted by the opportunity to have free dog training sessions.

Patrons who were interested in adding to their family were able to interact with some of the dogs available for adoption from the RSPCA.

Evelyn noted, “As you would be able to see we have a long line at the Animal Control Centre for the people to licence their animals.” She confirmed, “People are very interested in just making sure that their dogs are well taken care of, so Carter’s is just trying to facilitate that.”

Among the exhibitors were The Ark Animal Welfare Society, Ocean Acres Sanctuary and Atlantic Marketing, who mounted a display with their wide range of canine products.

Representative for Atlantic Marketing Florenta Edwards said the company also has products which cater to dogs with food sensitivities. Edwards hopes to be involved in next year’s event so that the general public is aware of their extensive product lines. (STT)
