Traffic changes for Oistins Fish Festival

Oistins, Christ Church will be abuzz all weekend as the FLOW Oistins Fish Festival occurs.  Here are traffic changes you need to know from the Barbados Police Service.

The Police Act Cap. 167 THE TRAFFIC CONTROL (OISTINS FESTIVAL) RULES, 2023

The Commissioner in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 23(2) of the Police Act, with the approval of the Minister makes the following rules:

1. These rules may be cited as the Traffic Control (Oistins Festival) Rules, 2023 2.

In these rules, “emergency vehicle” means a vehicle used by (a) the Barbados Red Cross; (b) the Department of Emergency Management, or (c) an ambulance service; “relevant dates” means Friday, 7th April; Saturday, 8th April 2023; Sunday.9th April and Monday 10th April ,2023; “relevant period” means from 14:00 hours to 24:00 hours; and “vehicle” has the meaning assigned to it by Section 2 of the Road Traffic Act (Chapter 295).

3. On the relevant dates the Oistins Festival will take place at Oistins in the parish of Christ Church.

4. On the relevant dates during the relevant period, Oistins Road from its junction with Keizer Hill to its junction with Welches Road No. 1 in the parish of Christ Church, shall be closed to all vehicular traffic except public service vehicles.

5. On the relevant dates during the relevant period, Oistins Road from its junction with Keizer Hill to its junction with Bentham Road in the parish of Christ Church, shall be closed to all vehicular traffic except public service vehicles.

6. On the relevant dates during the relevant period, Oistins Road from its junction with Keizer Hill to its junction with 2nd Avenue Welches in the parish of Christ Church, shall be closed to all vehicular traffic except public service vehicles.

7. On the relevant dates during the relevant period, Welches Road from its junction with Welches Road No.1 to its junction with Canevale Hill, in the parish of Christ Church, shall be closed to all vehicular traffic except public service vehicles.

8. On the relevant dates during the relevant period, no driver or person in charge of a vehicle shall park or allow the vehicle to remain stationary on any of the following roads or the adjoining footpaths except for the purpose of picking up or setting down passengers: (a) Oistins Road; (b) Maxwell Hill; (c) Welches Road; (d) Keizer Hill; (e) Oistins Hill; and (f) Maxwell Main Road; in the parish of Christ Church.

9. All drivers and riders of vehicles, pedestrians and riders or leaders of animals using any of the roads specified in paragraphs 4, 5, and 6, shall exercise caution and shall comply with these rules and any order given by a member of The Barbados Police Service in uniform.

10. Any person who contravenes these rules or fails to comply with any order given by a member of the Police Force in uniform is guilty of an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine of $500.00 or to imprisonment for a term of 3 months.

11. These rules do not apply to vehicles used by the: (a) Police Force; (b) Barbados Defence Force; (c) Barbados Fire Service; or (d) Any emergency vehicle.
