Flood watch in effect for northern districts

A flash flood watch is in effect for Barbados.

This alert will be terminated at 5 pm or sooner if conditions warrant.

A flash-flood watch is issued when heavy or excessive rainfall in a short period of time (generally less than six hours) could result in flash flooding within the watch area.

It does not mean that flooding will occur, but it is possible.

Hazard Info

The surface to low-level trough currently affecting the island has caused a reduction in wind speeds that is expected to persist throughout the day. This light wind regime in combination with daytime heating and available low-level moisture is expected to generate localised activity across the north of the island.

Maximum rainfall accumulations of 20.0 to 50.0 mm in moderate to heavy showers are expected.

Residents and visitors should be prepared for the following:

  • Floods due to the dry nature of the soils.
  • Travel with full protective rain gear such as full body raincoat, and suitable weather boots or shoes.
