Grantley Adams students, staff marking founders’ day celebrations with charitable service

Students from the Grantley Adams Memorial School are giving back and putting the school’s motto Equality, Opportunity, Service – We learn not for school, but for life into practice.

As part of the Founder’s Month activities, students, teachers and general staff agreed that this year they would participate in give-back initiatives, a project conceptualised and organised in collaboration with parish priest Rev. Jillian Crawford. 

As the first project, school representatives led by teachers David Moseley and Kareem Taitt along with groundsman Wendell Gaskin and 15 students participated in a cleanup of the yard of the St. Joseph Parish Church on Monday. The students were drawn from among the members of the No. 18 Cadet Company and the school’s Horticulture classes. 

The combined efforts of the Principal, Major Andrew Skeete, Rev. Crawford and her parishioners, the school’s Science and Technical Departments, the Board of Management, cadets, the Sanitation Service Authority, other staff and students completed a full day of debushing and cleaning of the grounds.

As the anniversary celebrations continue, the school will take part in a hamper initiative where families of the parish will benefit from the donation on June 11. The third event will be the offering of pampering services to select elderly people in the community, thanks to the school’s Cosmetology students. (PR)
