UPDATE: Man hospitalised after being shot by police

A man was shot by police responding to a robbery in Bridgetown this morning, Communications and Public Affairs Officer of the Barbados Police Service Inspector Rodney Inniss has confirmed.

He told reporters that lawmen received the report of a robbery at Sure Pay in Duty Free Bridgetown on Broad Street around 11:30 a.m.

When officers responded, they confronted a knife-wielding man in front of the Barbados Public Workers’ Cooperative Credit Union on Broad Street. He refused to disarm himself as ordered by police and was shot him in the abdomen.

An ambulance was summoned and the man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he is receiving treatment.
