Local News News Work stoppage at St Philip Polyclinic Anesta Henry10/08/20230123 views Nurses and other staff at the St Philip Polyclinic in Six Roads, St Philip are off the job to protest hazardous working conditions. Barbados TODAY understands that the workers have been outside the building since 10 a.m., and no patients are being seen at this time. General Secretary of the Unity Workers’ Union (UWU), Caswell Franklyn, who represents the majority of the nurses at the polyclinic said the workers are fed up that their many complaints to relevant authorities about the conditions have gone unresolved. He said on Wednesday he visited the facility which serves a large section of St Philip, and observed fungus on walls, hot rooms, and the “pooling of water” in several rooms. The trade union leader said the workers were also concerned about issues with mosquitoes and rodents at the facility. (AH)
