Investigation into complaints about “ungraded” CXC results

The Global Campus Barbados (GCB) has launched an investigation into complaints by some parents that their children have received “Ungraded” Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) results.

GCB, previously known as the Open Campus of the University of the West Indies, sent correspondence to parents, guardians and students indicating that it has reached out to the Ministry of Education in order to get to the bottom of the situation.

“I write on behalf of the Global Campus Barbados to inform you that in relation to the returned ‘Ungraded’ CXC results status which was received, we have initiated an investigation with the Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training to enquire of the reason(s) why some of the results are ungraded,” the GCB said in the August 30 correspondence.

“We are presently awaiting their response and resolution to this matter and will inform you of the outcome as soon as it is received.”

GCB officials also revealed that the issue extended beyond the university.                                                                                   “Please note that this situation is not unique to us, but it is being experienced across a wider ecosystem of our local educational institutions. We thank you for your kind patience as you are awaiting these results to advance your educational endeavours,” the campus added.

In response to a request from Barbados TODAY for information regarding the complaints, CXC said it had released preliminary results on August 24 and “Ungraded” indicated that a School-Based Assessment (SBA), multiple choice paper or supporting documents was not submitted on behalf of a candidate.

“Candidates may submit a query to have this result investigated,” the council said in a statement. “Candidates are not required to pay for this service. Queries may be submitted through schools for in-school candidates or through the Ministry of Education for private candidates.”

On its Facebook page, CXC also informed parents, guardians and students that they have until September 22 to submit queries about the “ungraded” exam results.
