Prison escapee charged

Tyreke Delandre Benskin, the murder accused who escaped from Dodds Prison just over a month ago, has been formally charged.

Benksin, 21, appeared before Magistrate Joyanne Clarke of the District ā€˜C’/St Matthias Court on Wednesday on a charge that being a prisoner on remand to the Barbados Prison Service, he escaped lawful custody by use of force on September 21, 2023.

He was remanded on that charge until November 22, 2023.

Within a few hours of his escape, Benskin was captured by police who were on patrol along Yorkshire Road, Christ Church.

Benskin has been on remand for the February 2, 2020, stabbing death of 22-year-old Shakeem Holder since a few days after the killing. He was 17 years old when he was arrested.
