The family-operated business sells snacks, beverages, groceries, and freshly prepared meals on weekends is located in Babylon Road, Bellplaine, St Andrew. King — a former student of The Alleyne School — holds a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Tourism Management from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill campus. King said she started her business because she wanted to be in control of her future. “My entrepreneurial spirit was present from my childhood as I used to accompany my grandmother on bulk shopping trips, purchased snacks and sold them from a tray in the living room at home. My family members and visitors patronized the business. I had a brief hiatus but in 2021 I made a comeback when I sold drinks at church for an open day and since then the business has been operating without interruption,” she said. King said one of the highlights of her business has been the construction of the new shop as she seeks to expand. With the help of her mother, she was able to make this dream a reality and now she can ply her trade to a larger clientele. “I would say one of the challenges I encountered was the construction of the new shop. While it is now finished, it was challenging as it was time consuming with a myriad of delays. However, having a strong support system was integral as they centred me and I was able to remain focused on the completion of the shop,” she said. King has some words of advice for any young person seeking to own and operate their own business. “Create a well-thought-out business plan that outlines your goals. Be prepared to adapt, stay persistent and don’t let failure deter you. View it as an opportunity for growth,” she said. (Write Right PR Services)
