Authorities investigating circumstances that forced UK bound flight en route from Barbados to divert to Bermuda

SOURCE: CMC – HAMILTON, Bermuda –  The Ministry of National Security says it is working with relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances that forced a United Kingdom-bound flight to divert to Bermuda with almost a dozen injured people on board on Christmas Eve.

In a statement, the ministry confirmed that emergency services took the 11 people to hospital and that nine had been released after treatment.

“At approximately 12:50 a.m., Maleth Aero Flight 1975, an Airbus A300-200, en route from Barbados to Manchester, experienced severe turbulence, necessitating an emergency landing at LF Wade International Airport.

“The aircraft executed a controlled landing on the island. The flight was transporting 225 passengers and 13 crew members. Emergency medical technicians from the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service greeted the aircraft to provide initial assessments of the passengers and pre-hospital care,” the ministry said.

The ministry said that aircraft will be grounded until after a comprehensive inspection is completed to confirm its integrity. (CMC)
