Classes get underway at Mount Tabor Primary

Around 80 students from the St John’s Primary School settled into classes at Mount Tabor Primary on Tuesday.

Just after 8 a.m., parents were seen dropping off their wards. They told Barbados TODAY they were pleased about the transition and the orientation process the previous day helped the students to get a better understanding of their new school environment.

A school bus transported many of the students who were accompanied by teachers. The bus would have collected the children from the 100-year-old Glebe Land school that has been indefinitely closed

After an assessment of the school property, chairman of the Barbados Union of Teacher’s Health and Safety Committee Julian Pierre reported that while there were a few issues at the school, he was satisfied that the students and teachers were in a comfortable environment.

He however disclosed that one of the newly built prefab buildings that houses some of the students from St John’s Primary has structural issues with leaking windows. There is also some concern about the integrity of the safety rails of the school. Pierre however stressed that it was only fair that the Ministry of Education be given some time to rectify those issues.

Before classes commenced, the school body had morning service at the adjacent Mount Tabor Moravian Church. Deputy Chief Education Officer Joy Adamson attended the ceremony, which was led by Reverend Dr Cicely Athill-Horsford.

Deputy Chief Education Officer Joy Adamson joined morning worship with the students at the Mount Tabor Moravian Church.

Mount Tabor now has a student roll of 240 students. (SZB)
