Moments before the 12-member jury in the No. 3 Supreme Court was to begin hearing evidence in his trial, defence attorney Shadia Simpson asked for her client to be re-arraigned, and he threw in the towel, pleading guilty to the October 26, 2019 killing. Principal State Counsel Neville Watson accepted the plea on behalf of the State and Justice Carlisle Greaves, who was presiding over the matter, directed the jury to return a verdict of guilty. The prosecution had outlined that on the day of the incident, 31-year-old St Clair, of No. 6 Hilton Row, Princess Royal Avenue, the Pine, St Michael, was informed by someone that Haynes was on Combermere Street. St Clair asked a friend to get him a ride to the area. The friend did as he requested, and St Clair was dropped off close to the area. Haynes was walking towards Oxley Street when St Clair walked up behind him and shot him several times before running away. Simpson requested a presentence report as well as personal behaviour and custody records. These were ordered by Justice Greaves. St Clair was remanded into custody pending sentencing on April 5.
