Dario Greenidge: From watersports to cost control, Dario’s journey at Sandals

Dario Greenidge’s journey from watersports to the warehouse at Sandals Barbados now finds him as the cost controller, as the 36-year-old from Carrington Village marks a significant milestone in his career trajectory.

Greenidge embarked on his Sandals journey ten years ago. Initially joining the watersports department, he later moved to the warehouse division, a move he believed would leverage his skills more effectively.

Greenidge recalled a pivotal moment in 2013 when he helped transport supplies to the hotel’s storeroom during the resort’s refurbishment.

“It all started one Friday evening… I saw one of the guys using the forklift and asked if I could lend him a hand… and it all worked out,” remarked Greenidge.

Despite offers to return to watersports upon the hotel’s reopening in 2014, Greenidge opted to remain in the warehouse, a pivotal decision in his career progression, he said.

“I remember my watersports manager… came to the storeroom looking for me but I told him that I had indicated to the finance manager that I wanted to stay,” Greenidge recalled.

His dedication and aptitude led him to transition from storeroom porter to a member of the cost control department, where he assisted with receivables before assuming the role of a cost control clerk.

Acknowledging the support and mentorship he received, Greenidge credited financial controllers Glenford Campbell and Lisa Gay Reynolds for his professional growth: “I can’t thank them enough for believing and guiding me up to this point.”

He added: “That’s the thing about Sandals, when they see potential that you may not see in yourself at the time, there are persons there to advise you on what courses and skill sets you need to advance in the company and I have benefited from this.”

Aside from his professional accomplishments, Greenidge, a devoted football fan of AC Milan in Italy’s Serie A and home team Weymouth Wales, also serves as a role model to his 15-year-old son.

“My son sees me starting as a watersports employee and now I’m a manager and he is so proud and constantly tells his friends that his dad is a manager at the best hotel in the world. Honestly, I’m lucky and proud that he sees me in this light. I always tell him, hard work pays off and I hope he follows my example,” he remarked with pride.
