Sagicor Financial Company Ltd has announced continuing its long-time sponsorship of the Caribbean Broadcasting Union’s Caribbean Media Awards, emphasising its support of prizes for financial literacy journalism and health education journalism in the television and print categories.

The awards aim to recognize outstanding contributions in these areas within the Caribbean media landscape among CBU members.

Last year’s recipients of the financial literacy journalism awards included Great Belize Productions Ltd. and the RJRGLEANER Communications Group of Jamaica, while WESN Content Capital from Trinidad and Tobago and the Daily Observer in Jamaica were recognised for their achievements in health education journalism.

Ingrid Card, Sagicor Vice President of Communications and Brand Experience highlighted the importance of supporting the media’s efforts in informing and educating audiences on health and financial literacy.  “We are pleased to be able to support the CBU in their commitment to informing and educating their audiences in health education and financial literacy,” she said. “As our audiences continue to take a greater interest in their health and management of finances, we wanted to give whatever support is necessary for the media to be able to continue its work in these key areas.”

CBU President Dr Claire Grant acknowledged the longstanding partnership with the financial services giant, emphasising the mutual benefits for both the private sector and the media industry. “CBU is pleased to partner once again with Sagicor in highlighting these themes so critical to the region’s development,” the CBU president said.

The CBU has been presenting its Caribbean Media Awards for over 30 years, celebrating outstanding content across various media platforms in the Dutch, English, French, and Spanish Caribbean. The NGC 35th CBU’s Caribbean Media Awards Gala is scheduled for August 13 in Placencia, Belize, coinciding with its 55th annual general assembly from August 12 to 14.
