Organisers of new festival promise ‘one-of-a-kind’ experience

The organising team behind the Caribbean Music Festival has promised that the show will be a one-of-a-kind entertaining experience.

During a media launch held on Wednesday evening at the Penthouse in Limegrove, St James, head of operations for the show Tredoana Parris said the event would be unlike any other. The festival takes place at Farley Hill National Park in St Peter on Sunday, April 28.

Parris said: “We’re going to be having music from the entire Caribbean; as far as Trinidad, Jamaica, right here in Barbados, and we’re going from our roots and heading out to Africa. We are going to have Afrobeat artist Joeboy. We are bringing a different vibe and energy to Farley Hill National Park. People are accustomed to reggae only, so we are bringing calypso, dancehall, reggae and Afrobeats. You will have an entire day of music along with deejays playing all other genres of music as well,” she said.

Parris said the idea was to eventually have the festival over the course of several days.

“Next year, we want to have it as a true festival where we have a series of events over, let’s say, a seven-day span. So you will come one night and here strictly dancehall, you will come another night and hear reggae, you will come another night and hear soca. That is our way of thinking of carrying this festival,” she explained. “This can be big for tourism. We get this out there for people to see and they’re gonna be intrigued and want to come to see what it’s all about,” Parris continued, adding that the organising team was “pulling out all the stops”.

Some of the artistes scheduled to perform at the show are Capleton, Lyrikal, Linda Blackman, Everton Blender, 450, Rygin King and Romain Virgo.

The event is endorsed by the National Cultural Foundation.
