Airport border control reveals two Barbadoses

Security guard frisk passengers standing in queue at airport terminal

Congratulations to whoever was bold enough to make a report about the treatment meted out to Barbadians arriving at the Grantley Adams International Airport.

Congratulations are also in order to Ministers Caddle and Gooding-Edghill for raising the matter in the House of Assembly.

For these two ministers of government to share similar concerns, there is now scarcely any doubt that we live in “two Barbadoses”.

Minister Gooding-Edghill pointed out: There is a middle ground upon which a set of policies and standards can be carved out for the treatment of all passengers.”

Are Barbadians to believe that since the first passenger flight at Seawell Airport circa 1938, there has been no improvement in customer service for more than three-quarters of a century?

Is this yet another example of one law for the Medes and another for the Persians?

Or should we take comfort in the words, “A prophet is not without honour save in his own country?”
