Unveiling a masterpiece: Collaboration brings beauty to BCC

A stunning new mural was unveiled at the Barbados Community College on Thursday.

The Barbados Community College (BCC) campus buzzed with excitement on Thursday as a stunning new mural was unveiled. The ceremony marked the culmination of a successful partnership between the college and Berger Paints Barbados Limited.

Lisa Brome, the college’s Public Relations Specialist, opened the ceremony, acknowledging the esteemed guests present, including Dr Allison Leacock, Chair of the BCC Board of Management, and Annette Alleyne, Principal of the college. She also welcomed representatives from Berger Paints — Rhea Singh, former General Manager; Tameka Thompson, Regional Sales Manager; Renee Cobham Senior Brand and Trade Officer; Akil Bailey, Marketing Assistant; and Alyssa Baptiste-Pierre, representing the BCC’s visual arts students.

Alleyne expressed her gratitude to Berger Paints for their generous donation of paint — that not only transformed the sports pavilion — and the canvas for the new mural. She highlighted the significance of the mural’s message, Better Choices Today, Developing a Better Tomorrow, which serves as a powerful reminder to students and staff alike of the importance of responsible decision-making.

Principal Alleyne emphasised the value of partnerships like this one between the college and Berger Paints. She noted that BCC not only offers a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education but also provides opportunities for fitness and well-being for all students and staff. She concluded by thanking Berger Paints for their additional commitment of offering internships to BCC’s top interior design students.

Branch, BCC’s Senior Tutor in Visual Arts, delivered a passionate speech about the fundamental role of arts in education. She emphasised the importance of nurturing creativity and artistic expression in students from a young age. She commended the winning student, Alyssa Baptists, and all the visual arts students who participated in the project.

Dr Leacock closed the ceremony with a powerful message. She highlighted the importance of creating beautiful and inspiring spaces on campus. She praised the collaborative spirit between Berger Paints and the college, commending their commitment to student creativity and the power of artistic expression.

Following the speeches, the audience moved to unveil the magnificent mural. The ceremony concluded with a call to action, encouraging students to continue expressing their creativity and to take an active role in maintaining the beauty of the BCC campus.

This event marked a significant milestone for the Barbados Community College, showcasing the transformative power of collaboration between educational institutions and private businesses. The new mural not only enhances the aesthetics of the campus but also serves as a constant reminder to students of the importance of making positive choices that shape a brighter future.
