More awards in Gine On People’s Choice

There will be some new awards up for grabs in this year’s Gine On People’s Choice Awards which celebrates Bajan creatives making a significant impact on arts and culture.

Of the more than 60 categories in the 5th Annual Gine On People’s Choice Awards, there will be a few new ones: Crop Over Band of the Year, Best Place To Eat Bajan Food, Host of the Year and Karaoke Deejay of the Year.

Two categories have also been named after loved members of the cultural community who passed away in 2017 and 2021, respectively — the Damien Taylor Cultural Performer of the Year and the Jon Doe Radio Personality of the Year.

Legacy Awards Of Excellence under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture have also been introduced.

“These will be awarded to specially selected creatives, not only just for the longevity of their services to the arts but also for the impact they have had over the community for years,” a statement from the organisers said. “These awardees will be Pauline Bellamy, Eric Lewis, Geraldyne Lynch, G. Addinton Forde and Tony Thompson.”

Submissions for nominations will end on April 12. The official nominees will be chosen by the public from April 19 to 26 with the official nominees revealed April 27.

Voting for the awardees and online showcase of the nominees will take place May 5-17 with the climax of the Celebration Ceremony at the Frank Collymore Hall, Sunday, May 19, hosted by Belle Holder and featuring wellknown Barbadian presenters and re-imagined Bajan live entertainment.

Organisers thanked Flow Barbados, the Ministry Of Culture, the National Cultural Foundation and Abeds for partnering on this year’s awards. (PR/BT)
