Cricket lovers at Pelican welcome 1st Twenty20 World Cup match at Kensington Oval

Cricket fans enthusiastically embraced Barbados hosting its first match in the ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup despite intermittent showers, as Oman faced off against Namibia. 

The excitement was tangible as a modest crowd gathered at the sole designated fan zone for the night, located at Pelican Island, formerly known as Pelican Village, on the Princess Alice Highway.

The anticipation heightened from the very first ball bowled by Ruman Trumpelmann, which resulted in the fall of Oman’s first wicket — Kashyap Prajapati, leg before wicket with no runs on the board.  

This set the stage for what promised to be an electrifying game.

Amidst the cricket action, attendees savoured local delicacies, with fish roe soup flowing from the Flaming Pelican Bar and Grill, and flavorful jerk dishes from Yardman Jerk Centre. Refreshments from the various bars and shops added to the vibrant atmosphere, as spectators settled in for what was to be an enthralling match. (RG)
