Farmer says sorry for marijuana possession

A pre-sentencing report has been ordered for a farmer who admitted to cannabis offences in the District ‘A’ Traffic Court.

Damian Whittington McCollin, 39 of Plum Tree Road, Haggatt Hall, St Michael pleaded guilty to six drug charges;- two counts each of possession, trafficking and intent to supply, which all took place on July 4.

Prosecutor Sergeant Verdon Forde outlined that in the first case, police were carrying out an operation and smelt marijuana coming from a shop. They went in and saw McCollin, and carried out a search during which two bags of the vegetable matter weighing 70 grammes were found. A warrant was then executed at the accused’s home and 438 more grammes were discovered.

“I am sorry for the position I am in and I hope you have mercy on me,” he told Magistrate Alison Burke, explaining to the court that he takes care of his grandmother, his two children and his pigs.

After there was no objection, Magistrate Burke placed him on $4 000 bail with surety and adjourned the matter until October 9.
