Hearts of Love: Adventists Rally to Aid Hurricane Beryl Victims

The East Caribbean Conference of Seventh-day Adventists has launched a relief drive to assist Vincentians and Grenadians whose homes were destroyed by Hurricane Beryl.

While packing supplies at the conference’s headquarters in Brittons Cross Road, St Michael, on Wednesday, community services director Pastor Dayle Haynes told Barbados TODAY the Seventh-day Adventist Church community was implementing a two phased hurricane relief drive.

Haynes explained that the first phase concentrated on gathering non perishable supplies and toiletries to ship to Grenada and St Vincent and the Grenadines. This aspect of the project commenced last Saturday, and the first shipment of supplies is expected to leave later this week. 

The second phase will see the organisation sending a team of volunteers to the worst affected areas to assist in programmes to rebuild homes.

“This relief drive is entitled, With Hearts Of Love and our members, congregations and organisations are coming and donating items. We are catering to hundreds of people in Petite Martinique and Carriacou in Grenada and Union Island in St Vincent,” Haynes said.

 “We have set up centres in these locations with our counterparts and they will be providing meals and supplies to those in need. So, we have a very well-oiled and strategic plan in place to render assistance. After we get the all-clear, phase two of the drive will see us going down to help with rebuilding. It is important that we show brotherly love because we are all in this together.” 

Last week, Hurricane Beryl devastated the three islands in the Grenadines, leaving thousands homeless. A number of deaths were reported and emergency personnel and armed forces from across the region, as well as various organisations, have banded together to help with relief efforts. (SZB)
