Surprise little library delights Grantley Prescod Memorial Primary

Pupils at Grantley Prescod Memorial Primary School were treated to an unexpected literary gift during their morning assembly, as a free little library was unveiled as part of the Barbados Blooming Campaign. The initiative, sponsored by Massy Foundation in partnership with PGDFF Caribbean, aims to foster a love for reading and promote lifelong learning habits among young students. PGDFF Caribbean is a Barbadosregistered charity that caters to underprivileged and vulnerable children in the region by providing access to free medical care, educational and literacy tools, and a safe environment for children to play and be active, according to the charity’s website.

The installation was orchestrated in collaboration with the Optimist Club of Barbados-Bridgetown, which maintains a Junior Optimist Club at the school. Optimist Club executives, led by director Mobola Aguda, presented the library to school officials Adrian Blackman and Yolanda Alleyne.

“Right now, the school is focusing on literacy, and it is fantastic to get books to the children’s liking,” Blackman stated, highlighting the timeliness of the donation.
