Woman of Substance

Dame Maizie Barker-Welch here with her daughter former permanent secretary Sonja Welch. (BGIS)

Dame Maizie was previously the chairperson of the Royal Commonwealth Society (Barbados) branch.  Additionally, she served as a council member of the society. Later, on stepping down from the RCS council, she continued to serve as a member of the branch.

Dame Mazie was a formidable, erudite, caring and charming lady.  She always presented as a most charismatic lady who was extremely proud to serve the RCS branch.  Her continuous evidence of philanthropy was an engraved mark of character which benefited those who came into contact with her.  Throughout the years, Dame Maizie’s contribution to the work of the RCS branch was never-ending.  Foremost in her regular contribution to the programmes of RCS were her evidential and tangible acts in support of our youth programmes.  She was loved and well-respected throughout her long and highly commendable life.

On behalf of the chairperson, councillors, members and friends of the Royal Commonwealth Society (Barbados) branch, we extend our sincerest condolences to her children, family and friends.
