Barbadians turn out to pay respects to late Dame Maizie Barker-Welch

Family, friends and former colleagues of the late Dame Maizie Barker-Welch have described her as a remarkable woman who had an impact on everyone she met.

Today, several people paid their respects at her viewing at the Lyndhurst Funeral Home on Passage Road.

Dame Maizie, who died on August 28 at age 96, was a trailblazer in politics and women’s rights. She led the National Organisation of Women and represented Barbados on several international bodies, including the Inter-American Commission of Women.

The service of thanksgiving for her life will be held tomorrow at the Abundant Life Assembly at 1 p.m., with tributes beginning at 12:15 pm. The burial will take place at Clifton Hill Moravian Church in St Thomas. (LG)
