Four New Year’s Day babies delivered at QEH

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) welcomed four newborns — two girls and two boys — on New Year’s Day to usher in 2025. All the babies were delivered by first-time mothers.

The first baby of the year, a girl, arrived at 5:09 a.m., to Alexandrea Vaughn weighing over seven pounds. 

Hours later, at 8:23 a.m., Dakota Graham-Wilkinson brought a five-pound, two-ounce baby girl into the world.

 

The third baby was the son of Rynesha Waldron. He was born at 10:46 a.m., weighing seven pounds, three ounces.

The fourth delivery for the day, also male, was delivered by 24-year-old Shaniece Small at 12:52 p.m. The proud mother of the over six-pound Emari Small-Worrell told Barbados TODAY, “The pregnancy for me was life-changing and a bit harder than I anticipated, and I look forward to finally holding my son. It was definitely not what I expected as I was prepared to have a natural birth, but I’m happy that everything turned out okay. I am excited to hold Emari for the very first time once out of recovery.”

Equally overjoyed was Emari’s father, 24-year-old Jaquan Worrell, who expressed his excitement about the journey ahead.

He said, “Being a first-time dad, it is a lot to take in. I feel like the entire pregnancy experience was euphoric . . . . I’m just thankful to God for opening up this new chapter, bringing blessings into this world.”

Meanwhile, at Bayview Hospital, no births had been recorded as of the afternoon. However, by 6 p.m., there were reports of two other expectant mothers in active labour at the QEH. (STT)
